Granny Went Star Crazy is quilted!

Oh does it ever feel good to have another quilt so close to finished!   I did basic outline quilting and not much else.  It really didn't need more and the quilting could not really be seen anyway with the busy fabrics.  The binding is attached by machine and just needs the hand stitching on the other side.

I have some Crab Apple Hill embroidery patterns I want to make and loved this tutorial on how to do the coloring with it.  I wanted to share the link.

3 basted, my design wall, and grandbabies

I now have three quilts basted and ready to quilt!  Yay, progress one stitch at a time is a happy thought.  The blue quilt is my sister's but I designed it and sewed a row together.  The other two are mine and have been works in progress for many years.

Here is a block I made this morning.  It will go into a quilt for a friend for Christmas.  I just wanted to check my measurements before sewing all of the courthouse steps blocks together.

This photo should explain why I haven't gotten much done this summer.  I became a new grandma twice.  We got a little boy and then 5 weeks later a little girl.  They are like salt and pepper, a little cowboy and a little princess.

Today I will be linking up with:

Star Crazy complete

I have finally completed the Star Crazy quilt that I pieced in 2010. It has been in the stack for grandchildren's graduation gifts. My 3rd granddaugher (of 6) and 4th grandchild (of 13) will be graduating from High School next week.
I did a combination of "stitch in the ditch" and "free motion"
The free motion quilting is in the corners and edges of the star center and along the green strips on the top and bottom. I challenge for me, as this is the first queen size I have used the free motion on.

Deana: Tuesday Archives HSTs - I was FEATURED!

"Featured, featured featured" (happy dance and happy song).  I awoke this morning to do my linky parties and found that Val had featured me on her Tuesday Linky even before I had a chance to link up.  Yay!  My post was ready last night so she must have seen it then or early this morning.

Today Val  has selected quilting sleeves and half square triangles as the theme for her Tuesday Archive Linky.  I wish I had time to put a tutorial together for the way I do my hanging sleeves, but I don't.  I do have a quilt to show with lots of HSTs.  It is called "Star Crazy" by Sue Garman.

I joined an online quilt group in 2010 to be encouraged by others as we made this quilt.  I named mine "Granny Went Star Crazy".  I used fabrics that reminded me of an old granny style.  Also, I think my grandmother whom I love and who is still alive, might be a little crazy, so the name just worked for me.  I love this quilt but have still not quilted it yet.  It was on the list to complete this year but I decided to start and finish quilts for my girls instead...perhaps next year (sigh).

Note all of the HSTs in the borders as well as the stars.

Below is a photo of what the "Star Crazy" quilt is supposed to look like.  I used my stash which did not happen to have white in it at the time.  My sister-in-law, Felicity, made this one.  Isn't it beautiful?  I quilted it for her.

You can check out the other Star Crazy quilts at this link.  Nedra at the Cactus Needle hosted the group.

I also have two more "oldies" to show with a gazillion HSTs in them.

This one was made from a bag of scraps someone gave me when I first began to piece quilts.  I love it and I love scrappy!

I won this quilt top at Utah's Annual Meeting years ago.  It is an "orphan quilt" made at "orphan night".  Everyone donates their orphan blocks, they sort them by color, and you gather in small groups to stay up all night and complete a quilt top with the orphans.  You get your name in the drawing for every block you donate.  The funny thing is that I donated all of the hour glass blocks shown in the three rows.  I never expected to get them back from winning the quilt they were made into.

Linkies today include:

Sew Cute Tuesday - her theme today is "warm colors".  I think my Star Crazy and orphan quilt both fit the theme.

Oct "Granny Went Star Crazy" complete

I am so glad to be caught up on my star crazy blocks of the month project.  I only hope to get the center assembled also this month since we now have all the blocks completed.

P.S. This month was SO much easier than last.

My day

This is what I woke up to this morning, so thought I would just spend as much of the day as I could, sewing. So I did!
Here is my first completed block on my Briar Rose. I finally figured out where to adjust the tension to be able to applique! YEAH!!!And my March Star Crazy blocks. I am loving these. They work up so quickly. I was able to sew them up in a couple of hours. Of course, it takes almost that long to cut them out.
I am done for the day. Marian leaves for work at 4, and the boys just woke up from their naps.

Star Crazy

Here are my January and February blocks.
What a fun project. I am trying to use up a bunch of my fat quarters and scraps from other projects. It is nice that the blocks are all different enough that I can mix and match to use them up.
I have not squared them up yet, but that is the next part of the project.
In between doing the BOM, I hope to get to my buggy barn project.
Marie, Thank you so much for the rotating cutting board. It has been invaluable in this project. I have a "Cut and Press" board, so I can set them both up and not worry about turning them over to cut or press. I have a mini iron, and so I can sit and to it all, instead of jumping up and down at the ironing board. Of course, I will have to use the steam iron to do the squaring up. That is why they are not done yet.
