MARIE'S PROGRESS

I just wanted to post some photos of my progress.  I finished quilting two quilts last year that I failed to post on the blog.

This quilt is Deana's pattern called Shimmer Braid. I finished the top a long time ago, but just recently finished quilting it. I quilted this on my home machine and I did a lot of quilting on it--probably too much, but I am happy with the way it turned out.

The next quilt is my Optical Illusion Mystery Quilt. It has been pieced and waiting to be quilted even longer than the Shimmer Braid. It's a very different quilt, and I really struggled quilting it, but I learned a lot about machine quilting on a domestic machine on this quilt.

My goal for last year was to get caught up on my quilting so that I could always just have one quilt on the frames being basted, one quilt being quilted and one quilt  being pieced, and no other unfinished quilts.  I like to have more than one quilt to work on so that I don't get too bored. When I finished quilting the Shimmer Braid I reached that goal.

I finished piecing my New York Beauty before the end of the year, but for some reason I failed to take a photo of the finished quilt top, so I just took a photo of it on the quilt frames being basted. Here are the three quilts I'm currently working on.

This top has been waiting for a long, long time to be quilted.

I decided it was time to something a little more simple this time and I am enjoying putting together a quilt that goes together quickly.

Deana: Shimmer Braid binding is complete!

It really is done!  What can I say but "Oh Buddy Yeah!"

I am not home so not photographing in the usual places AND I have to use my phone as a camera.  Sorry about the quality.

Photo below is before the binding was attached.

Deana: Sewing on braids

Today I am showing some progress I have made on Brielle's Braid.  I have most of the quilt cut out now and have begun work on the sashing strips.

I am almost finished quilting Shimmer Braid and hope to have a finish within the week.

Deana: Buggy Barn Stars, Brielle's Braid, & Machine Quilting

I have been working on a few projects today.

I am trimming the Buggy Barn star blocks to size.  Here are a few up on the design wall.

I am also still deciding on the arrangement of fabric for Brielle's Braid.  I am going to get another black and add to the top.  It just needs more black.

I am also getting Shimmer Braid quilted.  I am only getting to it a little each day, but it is still progress nonetheless.

MARIE: FINISHED MY SHIMMER BRAID TOP

I finished my Shimmer Braid top last night and I love it. Of course, now that I've made it there a couple of colors placements I would change, so maybe I'll just have to make another one some time and change the colors a bit. This was a fun project.  Thank you Deana for the beautiful, precise pattern.  Your quilt patterns are amazing.

Shimmering Sunset by Judi

I was so excited today when I checked out my Shimmer Braid blog because Judi had posted the progress on her Shimmer Braid Quilt.  Her color selection is so gorgeous and vibrant!  I just had to get permission to show you.

The center block pattern has not been released yet, but you can get a great idea of how the quilt is going to look.  She used the "Sunglow" Shimmer fabrics along with others which is the collection I've been dying to play with.  I love how it looks with the blues and purples.

Look how different it looks from mine:

You can check out the progress of other quilters who are making this quilt at this link.  They are all so beautiful and I plan to share them here when they get a full layout photo posted (with their permission of course).

You can get the FREE pattern at Forth Worth Fabric Studio at this link.  The fourth tutorial releases on the 2nd Tuesday of April.

Deana: Top Finished!

I decided to make this top into a queen size and just finished adding the  extra borders today.  I think there will be room for some wonderful quilting in all the white space.

You can get the pattern for FREE at this Fort Worth Fabric Studio Link.

Deana: Almost done!

This quilt needs two seams finished and then I will have a top done.  The sad part is that both of my machines are on their way to the shop tomorrow so I can't finish it.  I will be lost without a sewing machine for several days.

You can get the FREE tutorial at Fort Worth Fabric Studio and get the fabrics there as well if you like.  I also have a blog in place where we can post our progress on this quilt.

Deana: My Saturday time at the machine

My Saturday at the sewing machine resulted in a near finished top.  Shimmer Braid is well on its way and so much fun to make.  You can get the FREE tutorial at Fort Worth Fabric Studio and get the fabrics there as well if you like.  I also have a blog in place where we can post our progress on this quilt.

My design wall is not quite large enough to put the last few rows on.

Deana: Grand Illusion top is DONE! Shimmer Braid Begins!

I worked hard all day - a day off for the holiday - and got it done!  I am pleased with it.  I have no idea when it will make it to the "quilting" list but at least the top and backing are ready.

I prefer rectangular quilts to square ones and thought I would end up having to make another row of blocks.  Since I was behind and didn't get all of the "parts" made, I decided to use the sashing parts that I had already pieced.  I did not care for them as sashing anyway, but they made a pretty nice border.  The quilt was plenty wide for me so I just added the pieced border parts (2 together actually) to the top and the bottom of the quilt.  After that I did a final round of the batik I had used in the blocks where the "yellow" fabric was intended to go.  I am pleased.  It looks SO MUCH BETTER in real life.

Thank you Bonnie Hunter for the pattern and than you Quilting Chick Cathy for getting me into this (ha ha).  Bonnie's quilt does look like an illusion but mine looks more like flowers.  I think I'll keep the name anyway because it is just stuck with the quilt.  My Grandchildren someday will certainly not get it.

FREE Shimmer Braid QAL begins today!  Go on over to Fort Worth Fabric Studio to get the yardage, specifics, and tutorial.  It's going to be FUN!

Have you heard of Quiltalong.net?  Terri Swallow has created a wonderful site where you can find a variety of quiltalongs.  Here is the information she posted about Shimmer Braid.  You should go check out her site.
