Deana: Mom's Gold and Black Quilt is DONE!

YAY!  I got it all quilted for her!  Isn't she a beauty?  I was so picky on this quilt because it is so pretty.  I didn't want to mess it up with the quilting.

This was also my first quilt done on my new sit down longarm - Juki.  Can I say I LOVE IT!  It is so much easier than trying to get a large quilt in the small space of my Bernina plus I will save years on my Bernina.

I used rulers for the first time ever on this project as well.  There would not have been enough space on my Bernina for those either.

Today I am linking up with:

This is also my first finish for the 3rd Quarter Finish-Along.  I will be linking up there as well.  This project is item #1 on my 3rd Quarter List and you can find it listed at this link.

Deana: Setting Oct Goals

Hello Blogland.  It is a little late, but below is a list of my October goals.

My list is larger than normal this month because I plan on slacking next month.  My daughter comes home from Russia in November!  I have not seen her for 18 months and want to spend every minute with her.  She is currently serving a mission there for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  I miss her SO MUCH!  Missionaries are not allowed to call home but they can Skype twice a year - Christmas and Mother's Day.  This helps them to stay focused on the work they do.  She did not choose Russia, she was called there.  Missionaries submit their papers to the church offices and they decide, through prayer and fasting, where each missionary needs to serve.  She did not know the Russian language when she left, but she is fluent now.  It is such a great experience!

I will spend today and tomorrow watching our church's semi-annual conference on the internet.  It is my favorite time of year and so spiritually uplifting.  I invite you to check it out at this link.  It will later be available in many languages.  It will take a week for my daughter and the Russian people to get it in their language.

1.  Finish quilting and bind the Windmill Quilt.
I actually finished the quilting this morning - Yay!  I still need to bind it.  There is a pattern available for this quilt
In My Etsy Shop
Or in my Craftsy Shop

2.  Complete the entire top of this horse quilt
This is the direction this horse is headed.  I still need to piece the last ring and then make it rectangular.  You can see partial paper pieced units.  The borders will be hand applique' silhouettes of cowboys and horses.  I have much to do to get this done in time for Christmas.

3.  Design, make, and pattern the November Quilter's Garden row block.
This is the October row we are making.

FREE PATTERN IF YOU JOIN!  Details here!

Here is a single October block.  The rotaries in bloom pattern will be available for non participants to purchase at the end of the month.  You get it for free if you join and swap a block.
The sewing machine blocks were the September swap.  This pattern can be purchased here, at Etsy.  It includes patterns for three sewing machines.

You can also get it at Craftsy.

4.  Baste Jessi's Medallion to prepare it for quilting. The pattern is available  Etsy shop.  There are two parts in the Craftsy shop because the file was too big, so make sure you purchase them both or you will be missing some.  Etsy has the full pattern in one download.

5. Sew my monthly family round robin.
We all had to design a quilt for a sister or mom, but we all started with the same fabric (below).  As they pass around each month we do not know whose we are working on - it could even be our own quilt.  I have not received mine yet for this month.

6. Make a small quilt top for my Priceless Quilter Christmas swap.

I will be using sewing machine blocks as well as the "mystery" blocks I am designing for November's Quilter's Garden.  A pattern is currently available for the sewing machines at Etsy and Craftsy.  Once the November block is revealed I will release the pattern for this small quilt.

7. Baste and quilt this top made by Sandra

8. 10 Dear Jane blocks

Yes, I plan to be in the sewing room every second I am home.  My house will be a little ruffled up and my son and husband will wish I would cook; however, there will be a very clean home with nice meals, and special family moments when she gets home.

Deana: Still not quilted

I am still plugging away on getting this Windmill quilted.  I hope I can get it finished this weekend.

If anyone is interesting in getting the pattern, you can find it in my  Etsy shop and my Craftsy shop

The photo below shows that I still have the border area left.

If you look close, you can see that I still have the white space around the edges left.

Deana: sewing machines, quilting, and this year's progress

Today I finally added the embellishments to these four little machines.
It is still not too late to join the Quilter's Garden BOM Swap.  Click the link to read the rules. It is a row quilt and we have over 30 participants.  All you have to do is make one block per month to swap with someone else in the group but you can swap more.  You can make other blocks for yourself that you don't have to swap.  WE are making a row quilt, but some members are just making a Quilter's Garden sampler.  Here is a link to September's instructions with photos of the fabric we are all trying to match.  Email me at mamiebudgeese@hotmail.com to sign up.

Here are some blocks that have been made by group members so far:

I have also started some outline quilting on my last Windmill quilt.
I do have a pattern in the works for the windmill quilt.  Leave a comment or email me if you are interested when it is ready - about another week I'm afraid.

I had a little fun today stacking up and photographing most of the quilts I have quilted this year.  My goal was one per month and I have done it!  Yay!  Three are not in the photograph because they belong to my mother and I don't have them.

I am still progressing on my horse quilt although you can't see it in the photo.  I have been paper piecing the next ring around the outside.
Here are the pieces and fabrics I am currently paper piecing.  They are large pieces which, in opinion, are harder to paper piece than smaller ones.

This is a paper piecing linkup.  I designed and paper pieced the design around the horse and the sewing machines which have small amounts of paper piecing on them.

Deana: I love linky parties!

I was featured at:

I was THRILLED today to open up her website and see a photo of my horse quilt featured there!!  YaY!  Someone else likes my horse and appreciates the work that has gone into it.  I just hope my son will when he gets it for Christmas.  Actually, I know he will because he has been asking me to make it for years.  The only thing is that I can tell that my husband really wants one too, so, maybe next year I will be cussing this project again as I start a new one.  Since last week's post, this is what my Buckskin Mare looks like now.  She had to be a buckskin because they are my son's favorite.  I hope to get the top of the bed section done this month.

Note:  the horse is a pattern called
"Spring Storm" by Toni Whitney for Bigfork Bay Cotton Company
My son

I have a FINISH!  Yes, yes, yes a FINISH!  I have been quilting this quilt for my mom and put the last few stitches in it last night.  We have a sister/sister-in-law/mother thing where we give birthday money to a selected sister who then purchases fabric for the birthday girl.  It is SO MUCH FUN!  Well, we purchased the fabric in this quilt for mom and she made this flowery quilt out of the blues and reds.  I know Mom likes veriegated thread, so I pulled out my rainbow threads and set to adding many many more flowers.  When I use rainbow threads, I have to switch machines because my Juki is sensitive to thread.  It only likes extremely high quality/thicker threads.  I did most of the quilting on this one on my Bernina.  I hope Mom likes it.

My favorite part of the quilting is in the border.  I used a cute little continuous flower design in a light colored veriegated thread on the black and it really POPS!
