Pieceful Country is quilted!

My last quilt for the year is quilted.  Yahoo!!  I spent two entire days with tightened muscles finishing this large quilt.  I hurt everywhere but it was worth it.  I have a sit down long arm where you move the quilt under the machine.  Typically I only do a little a day, but I powered down to get this one done.

It will be bound by Monday!

This quilt was on my 4th Quarter Finish-along Linky Party.  Here is a link back to my original goal list.

I want to thank Gail over at Quiltinggail for this and my other 2018 finishes.  Her PHD challenge is what forced me to get all new starts completed except one.  I am happy to say that my quilt blogger friends spurred me on to complete 30 quilts in 2018.

Here are a couple shots of the back.

Pieceful Country Month 6

I finally got month 6 mostly done for my Pieceful Country.  As usual, I made some changes from the original pattern.  I chose a lazy version of the Snail's Trail block by removing the checkerboard center and replacing it with a solid square.  I did not make the heart block because I don't favor hearts, and the checkerboard block with stars in the corner may end up in this quilt later.  Instead of the tree with the couple standing by it, I chose to string a little quilt on a line between two trees.  I have not yet embroidered the line, but I will.  Since my quilt is not red, white, and blue like the others I may as well go all out on the change in theme.  I feel the original quilt is so busy and am choosing to add more white space to mine.  The tree section does that.

I still may put a churn dash type frame around the tree section.  I am waiting to see how it fits in with the blocks that go to the right.

I am also still playing with layout options.  I like this one but am not sewing units together until they are all made in case I want to make changes.

July One Monthly Goal

July is here and half of 2018 is gone.  I LOVE July and especially this July because my son, who I have not seen for two years, is coming home.  He has been in Germany on a church mission.  His best friend just returned from his mission last night and I cried when I visited him.  It will be a grand reunion!

My One Monthly Goal is to piece and quilt a small one for a friend's Christmas present.  Yes, Christmas in July it will be.  I have not yet even cut a piece of fabric for it, but it will be a red, yellow, and blue version of this quilt.

I did finish my One Monthly goal for June but forgot to link up.  Oh well.

I always have other goals as well.  I am going to list them, but I am not going to push super hard to really get them all done.  If I do, I do.  If I don't, I don't. It is more of a wish list because I want to spend some time with my son and do some house work.

1.  I want to paint both of my bathrooms.  The paint is beginning to peel and needs a refresh.

2.  I want to stain the bathroom cabinet in the back bathroom.  If I like it, I will do the main bathroom.  Now, I don't even like doing this kind of work, but I visited my sister last week and fell in love with what she had done to hers.  It inspired me.  I ordered the product just yesterday.

3.  Complete my Sliced Quilt top.  I finished the last paper pieced house just days ago and began assembly.  I have now renamed it the "Snow Globe Sliced Quilt".  I know I can do this goal because it only needs four squares of fabric added to the four corners.

4.  Quilt and bind Sweet Cherry Orange.  This was a Stashbee Quilt.

5.  Complete my Chicks in the Garden quilt top.  I know it is wild and bright, but I like it.

6.  Quilt & bind Chicks in the Garden

7.  Cut the bees to go with the flowers I made last month

8.  Sew the trees and assemble my Bear Paw Quilt.

9.  Keep up with Block Lotto comments as I am hosting this month.  Here are the blocks we are making.

10.  Keep up with my family round robin.  I just returned home with it yesterday.

11.  Add my June section to Pieceful Country

PHD update, To Do Tuesday, and 15 min to stitch

Hello goal setters and achievers in blog land!  Thanks for keeping me moving along.

PHD report update:

15 Min to Stitch update:

15 minute stitching days/week  = 6/7 days
15 minute stitching days/May = 27/31 days
15 minute stitching days/June = 2/3 days
15 minutes stitching days/year = 126/151 days
Success rate = 83.44%

To Do Tuesday Plan of attack for the coming week:

Kit the Strip Burst Quilt
Sew my portion of Strip Burst
1 house block
Baste Winged Things
Quilt Justin's Mystery
May's Pieceful Country

Monday's Accomplishments:

Pieceful Country is caught up through May.  Here is the May section.  This section is very different from the other group members.  I was lazy and made a house from a pattern I designed awhile ago.  I also made a couple more Sunbonnet Sue blocks so the other wouldn't be alone.  I just didn't care for the other "lady" blocks in the pattern.  Also, I have decided to do flying geese all the way around the quilt instead of just down one side.  I am using the square in a square blocks that were previously made for spacing in the quilt.

Here are all of the blocks thus far.  I plan to create some negative space for visual appeal on the second row, but I am waiting until the end to see the best placement for the blocks.  The original quilt is too busy for my taste, so I will likely make this quilt a little bigger by adding negative space for the eyes to rest.

I prepped a dog for applique' as well as part of a vine for my Diamond Hill quilt.

I sewed strips together ready for sub cutting on my family round robin project called Strip Burst.

One Monthly Goal and others

My One Monthly Goal for June is to quilt and bind my Winged Things quilt. This was a state round robin clear back in 2003. Members of the state guild can sign up for a round robin group.  I signed up for a hand applique group. I didn't get enough blocks for a quilt so I had to add many more blocks to it.

This quilt has butterflies,  birds,  bees, bugs, and an angel. I love the blocks so much and enjoyed meeting new people during the round robin.

Other goals for June include:

1.  Finish my Sliced Quilt top . I finished it in  February but wasn't satisfied with the results.  I decided to put the houses all the way around instead of just the top and bottom.   I need to piece two more houses,  pick off the previous borders,  and put it all back together in a way that I like.

Here it is ready to pick off the borders.

Here are the new blocks I have made so far and a photo of the general direction I am aiming for with my new plan.

2.  Kit a family round robin quilt and sew up the first row before I pass it onto the next group member.   I also need to tutor our youngest member as she makes her section.  She is 13.  I need to help her this month because it is her mother's quilt and we want to keep it a surprise to her mom until the end of the rotations.  Group members just pass fabric to another member and don't see what was done with it until the end.   It is so much fun.

Here is what I started so far and the pattern.

3.  Sew up the June round robin that will be passed to me next week.

4.  Cut,  piece,  quilt,  and bind Chicks in the Garden

Here is a picture of the pattern and the flower blocks that I have cut and ready.

5.  Quilt Justin's country quilt

6.  Quilt Mom 's blue and white quilt.  This one was a family round robin a few years ago so I made 1/5 of it.

7. Make the May and June blocks for my Pieceful Country Quilt.

8.  Assemble my Bear Paw Quilt Top.  All of the blocks are done except for these trees.
