Only two days after returning from our Shop Hop, friends met again for an all day sew day. The school is getting carpet so we met at the church instead. The bummer part is we had to bring our cutting mats, sewing machines, and rulers. Dang! That is work!
I didn't take many photos, but a few of the ladies got their witch skirts done. Three more ladies are done, but I didn't get photos this time. I have not even cut mine out.
I really enjoy seeing the same pattern done in different colorways.
Here is Brenna's. She is using mostly Lori Holt Fabrics.
This one is Shirley's. Her colors are from her stash and have nice, rich, bold tones.
Phyllis is using a lot of purples while Jodi and Kalynn are using brights with lots of oranges and yellows. Hopefully I can get photos next time. Mine look more like Brenna's.
I got one $BB block done and started the other three. Pineapple Log Cabins are fun. I didn't buy the ruler because I know how to make them with a regular square ruler.
I prepped all of these leaves and circles for applique' for my Laundry Basket Mystery. Now I just need to glue baste them on so I can stitch them during travel time next week. I still have to prep one more vine piece, 4 circles and one leaf. I am close.
Some ask how I do this. Well, I make freezer paper patterns traced in mirror image form. I iron 5ish layers of freezer paper together, waxy side down. Next I cut out the template. This template is pressed, waxy side to the wrong side of the fabric. When it sticks from the heat, trim about 1/4" around the edge. Brush spray starch onto the edge of the seam allowance. I just spray it into the lid and brush on the liquid. Iron a nice, crisp edge by pressing the wet seam allowance over the edge of the freezer paper. Remove the freezer paper and give it a nice final press. Glue baste it to the applique' background with elmer's water soluble clear glue, or a glue stick works. The final step: HEAT SET the glue to get it to stay. Don't get any glue near where you will be hand stitching or you will have to rinse out the glue in that spot. I reuse the freezer template several times.
My daughter has been doing tons of fun things with her kiddos since her Triathlon. She is such a good mother. Here are some photos.
Jarvie Ranch has special meaning to me with many memories. As a kid we have camped there many times. I saw it grow from a nothing historical site to a magnificant one. My dad had a lot to do with it. There is great outlaw history here as it is located in Brown's Park where the outlaws would hide out. It i also along he Green River where many river rafters like to play. My dad used to give wagon rides here ever Christmas season and we would go help him and camp. That was only in years when the snow wasn't too deep. It is located in Utah not far from the Wyoming line.My daughter took her kids here with her friend. They both have kids. Three of my grands are shown here.
We were present at the creation of this time capsule buried in 1996. Dad and Mom were there along with my husband and I and our children. My eldest daughter, the momma to the kids in the photo above, was only 3 years old. My husband traced her hand on the outside of the PVC pipe with a sharpie pen. Dad says that he will be dead and gone when they open it 50 years later, but my daughter needs to be there because she may very well be one of the only ones present at the creation of the time capsule and the opening of it. I think it is wonderful that she took her kids up to see it. My husband and I can hopefully make it as well, but we will be pretty old by then.
Along the river at the Jarvie Ranch...
Today is the 4th of July which means many parades in the U.S. It is Independence Day, a day I am so grateful for! I am grateful for the men and women who worked and fought for the freedoms we have.
Here are photos of my grands at the parade in their town.
