First finish of the year. Good friendship love and support/hard week

I finished D's scripture bag. He loves John Deer tractors. I finished it last night about midnight then drove it over to my daughter's. I just put it in her car knowing she was asleep.  She will deliver it to the baptism.  I am staying home and resting. I need it. I am trying to get over bronchitis and a little pneumonia so I can go see my dad after his heart attack.

I  found the bright yellow zipper in my stash and loved it with the green accents, but couldn't find the right color of yellow for the binding in my stash. I was lucky enough to find a yellow with green specks at our very small quilt store. I am pleased with how it turned out.

I have had two quilts laying on the floor and couch in my living room all week awaiting me to sew a backing for them: Canadian Chris and Autumn Afternoon.

Once I have them all pressed nice and ready for the quilter, I don't like to fold them up again for fear of having to press again. I usually deliver them straight from my floor to a hanger, and then straight to my quilter.

I am choosing backings from my stash. I found this wonderful 108 wide backing about words of friendship. Chris gifted me these blocks and her friendship matters to me, so it is perfect. It is too long for my quilt but not wide enough. There needs to be some simple cutting off the long end and piecing the extra back together to accommodate the sides.

Next step will be piecing a back for the other.

The first week back to school after the break has been a doosy. First off, two of my classes are semester classes, which means I get all new kids. It always is a little harder than just moving forward with an ongoing class. A new gradebook, Canvas Course, seating chart, and new passwords are time consuming.

We also start off every new quarter with reward parties for student growth and progress in math, reading, attendance, grades, and citizenship. There is a lot of data collected and evaluated behind the scenes that need to be updated for teams to mull over. It is a great system, but it all piles up in this week so we can notify parents and determine which kids qualify for which party. We have a big celebration assembly for the whole school where parents are invited to come see their child be recognized.

Well, amidst my very difficult busy week, I inadvertently forgot to call 3 parents. I impossibly managed to get everything else done, but that fell through the cracks.  Parents were nice about it, but it mattered to my kids.  I feel so bad.

My week kind of went like this:

Monday:

  • mid day call at school to find out Dad was in heart failure. He needs to be life flighted to a bigger hospital but there are no beds available yet
  • Hubby and I wait at work for word that he has been transported before heading to the hospital.  It is 2 hours drive in one direction to the small hospital and 1.5 hours drive the opposite direction to the large hospital.
  • We arrive at Utah Valley Medical center around 9 pm to see him in the emergency room there. He had only been 45 minutes ahead of us. Struggling with breathing, alert, pressure on heart, not much pain, but scared
  • Stay at hospital until they have a room available in UCU.
  • Home and in bed by 1:00 a.m. Cough all night - no sleep

Tuesday:
Work all day. Drive 1.5 hrs. Back to the hospital. Dad's heart improved but is now in kidney failure and diagnosed with diabetes. Home late. Cough all night again. Cancel attending monthly book club.

Wednesday:
Work all day, go to Dr., Cancel trip to the hospital, cancel Sew Fun Sister's Sew night that I host once a month. Go home and sleep. Good night's rest with meds.

Thursday:
Work all day. Nap after. Host my regular Thursday night gospel study zoom. Not able to talk to Dad on the phone because he was very tired. Good night's rest with meds.

Friday:
Work half day, make 3 school kids sad accidentally, nap, zoom with Dad- he looked and sounded better, zoom with Chooky Group, stay up late to finish the bag. Slept great.

Saturday:
Sleep super late. Dad had to have another heart shock treatment. Everything went crazy as he sustained another attack but is stable now.

I planned to sit with my neighbor and my sweetheart at
Church tomorrow because my neighbor wants to come back to church after her husband's death. She is expecting me to sit with her.
 Cancel that tomorrow too.

I am thankful for amazing coworkers who made me go to the doctor this week and picked up where I slacked. My co-teacher in math basically did the teaching most days in math class. My aide just took over and did the extras. Coworkers comforted and checked on me during a busy week for all of us.

My quilt and church friends as well as family checked in through phone calls and texts. Blog friends as well.
I feel so loved!

Family at the main hospital:

Monday night taking turns to see Dad.
Brother C drove 3 hours and my hubby.
Brother C stays in Dad's room all day and night.  He is a calming person and very quiet. Being a man helps Dad feel comfortable helping him in and out of bed.

Brother in law F came 5 hours with Tracy.
Brother in Law T and Sister J drove 2 hours.
Sister in law F and brother K (not shown as he was in with Dad) drove 2 hours.
Brother K is the one who probably saved his life forcing him to the hospital. Dad wouldn't go till K did the chores caring for the horses.  He stayed in the small hospital with Dad all day until they could fly him, then drove to the big hospital.

F and Tracy, myself, and my sweetheart.

Mom. Confused. Dementia.
My 2 sisters have stayed the whole week trying to comfort, keep calm, and take care of Mom.
My family is amazing! I feel so blessed to have them.

Looking forward to a much better week ahead.

  5. All the best for this next week for you all, especially your Mum. I've just heard that my Mum has just been taken to hospital but at 102 years that is hardly surprising. God bless you all.
