Last night I got nearly half of my 25 blocks sewn together for my Grand Illusion quilt. I am making half of the blocks different from the other half - at least on color placement. I never made the last two parts of the instructions so I am making use of the pieces I had previously pieced. If you are making this quilt you might notice that my center block is not a 4-patch as she designed. I am also changing the border and sashing to accommodate the look I want as well as the units I have finished. I hope to have more to show soon.
Some more units in progress...
This is how the alternate blocks will look. I have to use up those pieces I already made.
The way I plan to finish it if I have enough blue...

Scraptastic Tuesday - because this quilt is made entirely from my stash and leftovers from other quilts.
Oh I LOVE your version!! The white/black polka dots are perfect. And that pop of purple just finishes it off. Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAloha! Your quilt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Your version is SO much prettier than the example version and most of the quilts that I've seen in this pattern thus far! But that's just my opinion... :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color and fabric combination. This will be a gorgeous quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Sylvia
You are so clever. Love what you are doing with this quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh the white with black polka dots really pops this quilt!!! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletePlease finish this quilt ASAP!! I can't wait to see it done! But no pressure intended! LOL!
ReplyDeleteBe sure to show this to Bonnie Hunter!
It looks great - I've never been brave enough to try a mystery! Great scrappy quilt. Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be great Deana! I think your polka dot fabric adds a really wonderful touch and your changes will be a good improvement! It takes guts to do a mystery quilt straight out! I'd do mine after the mystery has been revealed, because then you can tweak it for your personal preferences. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love it!! This quilt will look amazing!
ReplyDeleteLooks great so far! I'm really enjoying seeing the different versions of this quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove the changes you made - less visually confusing.
ReplyDeletelove your version. cant wait to see the final product. isnt it funny how the same pattern can look so different each with their own personality?
ReplyDeleteI love what you're doing with this!
ReplyDeleteI like what you're doing with your mystery! I'm changing mine up, too. I've got my 25 blocks finished and need to frame them now.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you've changed this, especially with the center. Love those dots!
