Deana: I love linky parties!

I was featured at:

I was THRILLED today to open up her website and see a photo of my horse quilt featured there!!  YaY!  Someone else likes my horse and appreciates the work that has gone into it.  I just hope my son will when he gets it for Christmas.  Actually, I know he will because he has been asking me to make it for years.  The only thing is that I can tell that my husband really wants one too, so, maybe next year I will be cussing this project again as I start a new one.  Since last week's post, this is what my Buckskin Mare looks like now.  She had to be a buckskin because they are my son's favorite.  I hope to get the top of the bed section done this month.

Note:  the horse is a pattern called
"Spring Storm" by Toni Whitney for Bigfork Bay Cotton Company
My son

I have a FINISH!  Yes, yes, yes a FINISH!  I have been quilting this quilt for my mom and put the last few stitches in it last night.  We have a sister/sister-in-law/mother thing where we give birthday money to a selected sister who then purchases fabric for the birthday girl.  It is SO MUCH FUN!  Well, we purchased the fabric in this quilt for mom and she made this flowery quilt out of the blues and reds.  I know Mom likes veriegated thread, so I pulled out my rainbow threads and set to adding many many more flowers.  When I use rainbow threads, I have to switch machines because my Juki is sensitive to thread.  It only likes extremely high quality/thicker threads.  I did most of the quilting on this one on my Bernina.  I hope Mom likes it.

My favorite part of the quilting is in the border.  I used a cute little continuous flower design in a light colored veriegated thread on the black and it really POPS!

  2. Wow! I'm so impressed by the quilting you did on your mother's quilt! The dense quilting in the centre of the quilt is gorgeous with all the flowers and leaves and twirls. The many borders are equally gorgeous. I would put this quilt on my bed with the back on top. (One week with the front on top, one week with the back on top... lol) I'm not sure I would dare use a light color thread on a black fabric. The result you achieved with the daisies is impressive.

  3. How fantastic is this.
Do you draw any of your design on before you quilt or is it all free hand

  6. Wow! Your buckskin mare is absolutely stunning. Having horses of my own, I'd love to do this applique. You had mentioned the horse applique is not your own. Can you tell me where I could purchase the pattern of the horse head? Thanks, Tina
