The top block is called "Barbara Frietchie Star" Legend is that she arose from her sick bed and held the Union Flag out the window of her bedroom when General Jackson marched his troops through her town.

The bottom block is call "Irish Chain" in memory of the Irish battalion who fought on the Union side of the war.
