Deana: First finish of 2015

Yay!  I have my first finish for 2015 and hope it will be followed by many more.  It was also on my 1st Quarter list for the 2015 Finish-along.  See the link back to that post here.

I put the last binding stitches in it just last night.

I have always referred to this quilt as my "Autumn Flowers" because of the autumn colored flowers.  Below is a close up photo of the block with the names of friends and family who made each block and when they made it.  Yes, the first block was made in February 2004 and the last one in March 2005.  Each person was asked to make a flower block, any size and any pattern, out of the color scheme.

In August 2011 I came across Sophie's Block Lotto blog where I got the flower pattern I used for the border.  I think it was perfect for it.  I made it from scraps of fabrics I had in the autumn colors.

I did not get very fancy on the quilting and each block is quilted differently.  I just wanted it done quickly.  This quilt will just be something to cuddle up with as it is just a throw size.

Each block has the maker's name penned on it.  It was hard to write on the quilt, but all these years later I love that I have a record of each block.  I wish that I had done more quilt labels through the years.  Shame on me.

Over the weekend I also got tutorial #2 ready to post for the
 FREE Shimmer Braid QAL.
It will release on February 10th.  The first tutorial is available at this link at Fort Worth Fabric Studio.  A PDF version is available at the bottom of the post.  Come join the fun!

We even have a blog where we will share our progress on this QAL.  Leave a comment if you wish to join.  You can find it here:

ALYOF  2015 finishing party

I am also making a post to the Block Lotto about this finish.

This is my first finish this quarter for the 2015 Finish-Along.  I will be linking up with the finishing party there at the end of the quarter.  Here is the link to my original goal setting post.

I linked this also to the finishing party at 2015 Finish-Along.
I am also participating in Kris and Peg's OPAM 2015 challenge to get things finished.

Deana: Friday Night Sew In report

Hello Blogland!  This is my Friday Night Sew in  report!  I am so excited to have a Friday night at home to sew.  We have a break in wrestling for two weekends in a row so that helps me to get so much more done.  I do take hand work with me to wrestling though.

I got some work done on this project - only two blocks

I also got all of the outline quilting done on my flower quilt as well as some filler quilting.  I hope to finish it today.  This was a round robin several years ago.  I asked the group simply to make me a flower block any size.  The border is a Block Lotto pattern.  I will post this to the Lotto when it is done.  The flowers have many memories from many people I love and the border just finishes it off nicely.

Deana: Val's Tuesday Archives

I have been so busy over the last month that I have scarcely had time to breath.  I have been missing the linkups with Val's Quilting Studio.  I took a moment to check out the topic for today and discovered it is machine applique'.  I chose to show an old quilt I made for my daughter when she was in high school (only a year and a half ago).  Doesn't this look like the perfect teenage quilt?  I did it in her favorite colors - orange, blue, and purple.  I turned all the edges under on the big flowers and then invisible thread stitched it down.  It was fun and went fast.

Deana: Buttons on

I got my buttons on my flower blocks for the December Quilter's Garden.  You can see them all paired up with their match.  The flower fabric and background fabric reverse on the pairs.

Deana: I love linky parties!

I was featured at:

I was THRILLED today to open up her website and see a photo of my horse quilt featured there!!  YaY!  Someone else likes my horse and appreciates the work that has gone into it.  I just hope my son will when he gets it for Christmas.  Actually, I know he will because he has been asking me to make it for years.  The only thing is that I can tell that my husband really wants one too, so, maybe next year I will be cussing this project again as I start a new one.  Since last week's post, this is what my Buckskin Mare looks like now.  She had to be a buckskin because they are my son's favorite.  I hope to get the top of the bed section done this month.

Note:  the horse is a pattern called
"Spring Storm" by Toni Whitney for Bigfork Bay Cotton Company
My son

I have a FINISH!  Yes, yes, yes a FINISH!  I have been quilting this quilt for my mom and put the last few stitches in it last night.  We have a sister/sister-in-law/mother thing where we give birthday money to a selected sister who then purchases fabric for the birthday girl.  It is SO MUCH FUN!  Well, we purchased the fabric in this quilt for mom and she made this flowery quilt out of the blues and reds.  I know Mom likes veriegated thread, so I pulled out my rainbow threads and set to adding many many more flowers.  When I use rainbow threads, I have to switch machines because my Juki is sensitive to thread.  It only likes extremely high quality/thicker threads.  I did most of the quilting on this one on my Bernina.  I hope Mom likes it.

My favorite part of the quilting is in the border.  I used a cute little continuous flower design in a light colored veriegated thread on the black and it really POPS!

Deana: Flowers

Val's Quilting studio's theme for today is flowers and flying geese.  I will do a separate post for the flying geese because there are so many photos in this post.

Here are my smallest flowers EVER.  I double fused the fabric and tacked them on with french knots.  This was a panel in my barn quilt for the DOD 2011 mystery project.

I made these flower blocks for the block lotto several years ago.

I did not win, but I did make more and put them as a border for my Autumn Flower Quilt.

I need to update the photo because the top is finished now.  This was a round robin.  I asked everyone in the group to make me a flower block of any size or style in autumn colors.
This is a quilt I made for my teenage daughter.  I love the large flowers on it.  Doesn't it look all teenagerish?

I quilted it in veriagated pastel colors. (The back)
This is a flower quilt I designer many years ago.  I sold many patterns, so I guess some other people liked it too.  I call it Lacy Daisies and it has hand embroidery on it.

And here is another flower I designed.  I was having fun with free style curvy piecing.
