3 basted, my design wall, and grandbabies

I now have three quilts basted and ready to quilt!  Yay, progress one stitch at a time is a happy thought.  The blue quilt is my sister's but I designed it and sewed a row together.  The other two are mine and have been works in progress for many years.

Here is a block I made this morning.  It will go into a quilt for a friend for Christmas.  I just wanted to check my measurements before sewing all of the courthouse steps blocks together.

This photo should explain why I haven't gotten much done this summer.  I became a new grandma twice.  We got a little boy and then 5 weeks later a little girl.  They are like salt and pepper, a little cowboy and a little princess.

After many years, Christmas Log Cabin is a finished top!

I don't even know how many years I have spent trying to finish this intricate log cabin Christmas quilt.  It is a joy to have it done.  I didn't plan to quilt is soon, but it is pressed so nice and crisp right now that I laid it on a spare bed and am going to try to baste it right away so I don't have to repress it later.  I also plan to make pillowcases and pillow covers to match from the leftover fabric.  I purchased two kits many years ago of the same fabric with no plans of what to make out of it.  I just knew I loved the fabric.  Later, I added greens, golds, reds, and blacks to it so I would have enough to make this quilt.  I made sure most pieces had flecks of metalic gold in them.

This quilt was also a draw number on my Patchwork Times list that I didn't get done a few months back.  Now I am back on track and have completed everything on the list so far.

I also got my Flowering Snowball pressed and on the quilt frames.  I hope to baste and quilt it this week.  This is this July's draw number for Patchwork Times and my One Monthly Goal.  I guess I have two weeks to get it done.

Deana: Christmas Blocks done! Yippy!

Isn't it amazing what I can achieve when I am actually home!  After years and years of sitting in a stagnant phase, the blocks are complete for my Christmas Log Cabin.  The newly finished blocks are not yet sewn to the middle so it looks a little off, but it is getting so so close.  I will still have to decide on borders.

I also finished my last receiving blanket last night.  I love crocheting around the edges and the baby is due to arrive within two weeks.

Deana: Christmas Log Cabin Blocks

I have nearly finished 16 more blocks in this quilt.  You can see where the two I finished go on my design wall.  I also have a picture of the blocks in progress.  They just need me to sew one more log onto the side.

This project was my March project for an online number draw each month.  I didn't finish it so I am attempting to get it done anyway - at least the top.

Deana: Monthly goals - not going to get them all done!

Well, this is the last week of March and I am not going to get it all done as planned, but that is ok.  I added a ton of stuff to my goals this month after setting some.  I did the best I could with the time I had.

I had planned to finish this quilt top.  I still might make it, but it won't have borders sine I am unclear as to what I want to do with the borders.

Here is the plan:

Here is how far it is now:

Here is the production of the next 16 blocks:

I also finished another round on my Christmas Log Cabin quilt.

I am linking up with Fabric Frenzy Friday.  Go over there and check out what others are doing tonight.

Deana: Christmas Log Cabin and Windmill Borders

I made progress yesterday on my Christmas Log cabin blocks.  I have tried to make 10 blocks a month  this year, so here are the pieces of this month's goal.  I hope to finish them by the end of the month.

Below is about half of the border for the Windmill Quilt.  I ran out of fabric and have to get some this week to finish.  I am making enough border for two tops.

Blogger wants to flip it sideways ???

3. Finish this Windmill quilt top complete with borders.

Because of all the inquiries I have received over a pattern for this quilt, I am working on a pattern for it and will post it in my Etsy shop soon.  I will post a link on my blog when it is ready.  Please leave a comment with your email if you would like an email when it is ready.

After: Top done but not the borders.  FINISHED MAY 10, 2014

Here is a photo of the progress I made on the borders.  It is a pieced border and a bit detailed.

4.  Make 8 more Windmill blocks for the second quilt I am making out of them.  It is the exact same colors.

 7.  Finish kitting my round robin.  It needs to arrive at its new home by March 15th.  I cannot post a picture because it is a secret.  We all sent each other fabric and the receiver selects a pattern, cuts it out, kits it, and sews up the first kit.  The owner of the quilt will receive a finished quilt at the end.

Finished March 7, 2014

8.  Design a quilt for the red and white quilt challenge.

Finished March 7th 2014
The first one is for my daughter and is called Jessi's Medallion.  If you are interested in joining a sew-along for it please leave a comment.  More information here.

9.  Machine quilt and bind Jessi's Log Cabin.

Not Finished in March but FINISHED MAY 17, 2014.
I made progress but it is hard to see.  The threads you see are basting stitches.

Deana: Lots done so far this week...

I have been sewing this week, but I have also been designing.  Linking up with  Freshly Pieced (WIP Wednesday) and Esther's WOW Wednesday.

I have been working on some of my March goals this week.  First off is Jessi's Log Cabin.  I am machine quilting it on my Bernina.  You can see the basting stitches all over.  I have a lot of the general outlining done.  I have not yet begun the "pretty" stuff.

I have also made 10 more blocks for my Christmas Log Cabin, I need to make ten more to make it look balanced, but that will happen next month.  It is the same pattern as the one above.  This one will be for me.

I have also made progress on 6 Windmill blocks for my other daughter.

I am so excited to reveal "Jessi's Medallion" that I designed for my daughter.  I  finalized the design just this week and plan to get started on it in April.  If anyone would like to make it with me online, please leave a comment or email me at mamiebudgeese@hotmail.com.  There is also a link  below to more information about it.

Want to do a sew along?   It will be fun!  Click this link to find out more.

I am also submitting this design to the Red and White Quilt Challenge.  The places that look black will actually be a dark/deep red.

I flipped a few blocks on this one, so it has a little different look in the center.

Deana: Goals Accomplished!!

I got so much done in February thanks to A Lovely Year of Finishes.  Below is what I accomplished:

Here were my February Goals:

1.  I hope to complete 8 Dear Jane blocks this month which comes to two a week.  It is hard to do more than that with those little 4 1/2" blocks.  You just need a break from them.

BEFORE:

FINISHED FEBRUARY 26TH.

2.  Finish the words in "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" as well as the strip of music.  This is a hand embroidery quilt.  I will be at some wrestling tournaments this month where I can do hand work.
BEFORE:

FINISHED FEBRUARY 9, 2013  --

I actually finished the entire section...hooray!

This is where it goes on the quilt.

 3.  Finish the quilting on my mom's Utah Quilt.  It is pretty well on its way.  I machine quilt with a regular Bernina.  I don't have a longarm, so it takes me a lot longer.  The strings you see are basting stitches.
BEFORE:

Below is my favorite block in the Utah quilt...the covered wagon with a little quilt in the back.
 FINISHED FEBRUARY 5, 2013  -- HOORAY!!

4.  I hope to get 10 WindMill blocks done this month.  They sew up pretty fast except for the black applique centers which I do by hand.  I will be making two queen sized quilts out of these, one for each of my daughters.  I will need a total of 40 blocks.

Because of all the inquiries I have received over a pattern for this quilt, I am working on a pattern for it and will post it in my Etsy shop soon.  I will post a link on my blog when it is ready.  Please leave a comment with your email if you would like an email when it is ready.

BEFORE:

FINISHED FEBRUARY 24TH.
My goal was 10 blocks and I finished 14 and the last three are very close.

 5.  I hope to get this other quilt of my mom's quilted this month as well.
I did not finish this goal but I made great progress.
I will post a picture next month when it is done.

6.  Number 6 is my Christmas Log Cabin Quilt.  I hope to complete 10 blocks for it.  It looks a little off because it is laying on top of my "Dear Jane" quilt on my design wall.  My snowman quilt is also on the bottom under it.

BEFORE:
(Sorry, Dear Jane is behind it.)

COMPLETED FEBRUARY 21.  My goal was 10 blocks and I made 16.  Hooray!
