Thanks "I Like Thursday" bloggers for a great positive weekly gathering. A big thanks to Leeanna for hosting every week as well.
My likes for the week are:
#1 Book Club. Thanks for introducing me to many wonderful books and for your friendship.
#2 Great cooks in my family who taught me how and shared their great recipes. My Grandma - the only one I have left - is in a nursing home. For Thanksgiving this year I made her rolls. They were a hit. She swears that you must not make substitutions. Use powdered milk and real butter.
By the way, aren't the best recipes the ones that are in the worst shape - slopped on and everything?
The Banana Cake is divine. Make cream cheese frosting for it!
#3 I am thankful my mom can still embroider. At our summer quilt retreat I put together this project for her. Only a few months later and she has returned it completed. I just love Raggedy Ann and Andy!
This quilt is a memory to me in that it was made at our last ever retreat at the cabin that burned down in September. Sweet memories though.

What an awesome crib quilt! This will be a treasure to remember your mother by. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteGreat recipes! Love LOVE your mom's embroidery! She did a great job and that is one cheerful quilt!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI have recipes from my grandmothers and my mom, and I cherish them. Especially those written in their own hand. Your mom does lovely embroidery!
ReplyDeleteI love types of recipes and sometimes try a family recipe that is written out and looks like yours. Nothing better than Cinnamon Rolls at Christmas. That is wonderful that you make projects and include your mom's embroidery - perfectly perfect.
ReplyDeleteOm my gosh that is so cute. So sorry to hear there was a fire :( Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
ReplyDeleteVery special to have your Grandma's recipes, food stains on the page mean the recipe was used lots to me. Your Mums stitcheries are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely embroidery by your Mum... & a treasured memory of the cabin too.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas xox
Such wonderful memories in those recipe cards - and the best ones are those that are all spotted and USED. Your mom did a fabulous job on the embroidery! I'm glad you're turning them into something so enjoyable. {{Hugs}} Now I've got to hop over to the cookie post. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the best recipes look the worst. I have notes penciled in all over the edges of mine. The embroidery is very cute.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, the recipes that are in the worst shape are the ones most loved!
ReplyDeleteSad memories about losing the cabins. Good memories of what took part in the cabins.
ReplyDeleteThat embroidery quilt is a great design. It looks lovely. Older recipes are always great. It’s like having comfort food.
Just catching up on your blog after getting behind in reading, and I am exhausted just reading about all you have achieved. Some great memories and I love your mum's stitcheries, and such a fun thing to do at Christmas with the balls of wool going all over the house. Well done on all the quilts you manage to finish.
ReplyDeleteIsn’t it great to have family recipes. I have both my grandmothers’ handwritten recipe books. Such treasures. It’s wonderful that your Mum can still embroider. At 91, My Mum still crochets and knits, but is starting to struggle with even relatively simple patterns. I just hope she keeps going as long as she can.
ReplyDeleteLots of very thoughtful things to be thankful for. Your mother's embroidery project is really cute. I'm behind on blog reading, so breezed through your ones for this week. You have finished some gorgeous quilts this year and are so close on others. Have a very good week.
ReplyDeleteYour embroidery projects are so cute.
ReplyDeleteOh! Her embroideries are so adorable - what a fun collaboration quilt! I am so sorry about the loss of the cabins. This has certainly been a year to nudge us to re-evaluate our mindsets and re-invest ourselves in the truly important things.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely family you have! How special to have their old recipes and quilts embroidered by hand! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
