Diamod Hill is making progress - a hand applique' journey

Hello Blogland!  I spent the past few days out of town for a teacher's convention.  I attended some great classes that gave me so many wonderful ideas as well as some not so great classes.  I have a few more things to pull out of my teacher basket for next school year that I'll be working on this summer.

I mentioned in an earlier blog post that I took sewing with me.  I didn't take my machine, but I did take a quilt to cut out, which I did.  I also took hand applique' that was pre-prepared (glue basted and turned).  I CANNOT BELIEVE how much I got stitched.  The photo below shows that I have one corner done!  Yay!  I also prepped another corner to do next time I am away from my sewing room.  This pattern is called Diamond Hill by Esther Aliu.  There is a link to her site below.

I am linking up this progress with 18 in 2018 over at What a Hoot.

Below shows the quilt it will border.  These borders are only in the corners and don't go all the way around.  I just love this pattern designed by Esther Aliu at http://estheraliu.blogspot.com/.  Her work is amazing but also very intense sewing.  I started this quilt as a BOM last year and want it completed this year among my other UFO's.  I love it so much that I even bought extra fabric to make throw pillows to match for my quilt.

The block below is missing a flower at the top, but it really is done.  You can see it above in the photo that shows all the blocks.

I like to iron turn the edges and glue baste the pieces down to save for days I am away from my machine.  Next week for Spring Break I will be doing some of that.  I am kind of all about not wasting a single moment.  I am always taking some kind of work with me everywhere - teaching or sewing usually.

On the way home from my trip I met up with my daughter and beautiful grand daughter.  We all went to the pool to watch little Arie play in the water.  She loved it!

I have a friend that wants me to take a class with her to make a really cute bag.  I haven't even seen the bag yet, but if she loves it I will too.  As it turns out, she can't go to the first class so I guess I will be going for both of us this week.  I still have no idea what I am making so it is kind of like a mystery bag to me.

Surfing blogland today I came across a super cute bag that looks pretty simple and fast to make.  I think I'll whip some up for my daughters, mother, and mother-in-law for mother's day or the grands for Easter.

The bag I fell in love with is at Sarah Goer quilts.
Here is a link to the tutorial she used.  It is by Jeni Baker @ incolororder.

  1. There certainly is a lot of detail in Diamond Hill. It is looking wonderful so far. I too like to have a few applique blocks prepped ready to take along. It is amazing how much gets done a stitch here and a stitch there.

  5. This is a wonderful appliqué piece. You have great skill in working with such fine detail. The b/w background makes the whole thing so lively, along with your color scheme. It's traditional but modern in feeling as well. Just charming!
